Scarlett Dragna nunca ha abandonado la pequeña isla en la que ella y su hermana Tella viven bajo la vigilancia de su estricto y cruel padre. Desde hace años Scar sueña con asistir a la celebración anual de Caraval, unos legendarios juegos que duran una semana y en los que la audiencia participa para ganar el Gran Premio. Caraval es magia, misterio y aventura. Y para Scarlett y su hermana representa la libertad y poder huir de su padre. Ahora que está a punto de casarse con un hombre al que nunca ha visto, Scar cree que su sueño nunca se cumplirá. Pero justo dos semanas antes de la boda recibe las tan ansiadas invitaciones a los juegos. Sin embargo, una vez allí nada sale como espera: Legend, el Maestro de Caraval, secuestra a Tella y Scarlett se verá obligada a entrar en un peligroso juego de amor, sueños, medias verdades y magia en el que nada es lo que parece. Real o no, sólo dispone de cinco noches para descifrar todas las pistas que conducen hacia su hermana, o ésta desaparecerá para siempre.

VALORACIÓN PERSONAL

Justificación:

Decidí leer este libro, obviamente, porque tiene una portada preciosa: azul oscuro con las letras grandes, blancas y una estrella azul brillante. También me llamó muchísimo la atención la trama: Un mundo de fantasía en el cual no te puedes fiar de nadie, romance, sueños por cumplir, un gran concurso en el que no puede participar cualquiera… Me pareció muy interesante, no seguía los mismos patrones de otros libros juveniles y la verdad es que no me falló. Me gustó muchísimo y cuando me enteré que había segunda parte, que sale a la venta este año, me he alegrado bastante.

Argumento:

El libro empieza presentando a Scarlet y explicándote como es su vida en la isla, viendo como es su vida diaria etc. Su hermana Donatella sabiendo de su sueño de participar en Caraval la acaba convenciendo de participar en el gran evento (exclusivo, anual y totalmente secreto) para el que tiene entradas para ir. Además las va a llevar un apuesto desconocido (Julian) al que acaba de conocer su hermana. Para poder participar tienen que escapar de un padre bastante estricto (y un poco cabrón…) además, tiene que volver antes para asistir a su propia boda concertada, es decir, tiene el tiempo justo para participar en Caraval. Las dos hermanas se van a introducir en un juego lleno de misterio y en el cual se van a conocer mejor a ellas mismas.

Personajes:

• Scarlet: es la protagonista principal. Una persona demasiado cauta, que piensa demasiado en las consecuencias de sus actos. En este libro vemos como ella se enfrenta a esos miedo para terminar conociéndose y tomar sus propias decisiones.
   
• Donatella: es la hermana de Scarlet y a diferencia de ella, es más atrevida, descarada y hace las cosas sin pensar en las consecuencias. Solo piensa en su propia libertad y disfrute. 

• Julián: es un personaje curioso, aparece al principio como un total desconocido pero a lo largo de la trama  va cobrando el protagonismo que se merece y se convierte en un personaje clave para el mundo de Caraval. 

Atmósfera:

Me parece asombroso el mundo que ha creado, cómo mezcla la realidad con la fantasía. Además de ser una idea bastante original, me recuerda un poco a los Juegos del Hambre por el tema de la selección y del juego pero a la vez también me recuerda a Alicia en el País de las Maravillas por todo el misterio y la fantasía. Si tendría que describir la atmósfera en dos palabras serian: INCREÍBLE y MÁGICA.

Estilo de escritura:

La forma de escribir de la autora, en mi opinión, bastante buena. Solo le pondría un pero, seria, que al mezclar tanto la fantasía con la realidad en muchas partes del libro, te deja algo confuso, hace al lector replantearse si eso es parte de la realidad o no. Según avanza el libro acaba gustándome esa característica que antes podía irritarte, es parte de su esencia.

COMENTARIO GENERAL

Si queréis sumergiros en un mundo lleno de fantasía, con ciertos toques de realidad y sobre todo de intriga… Os recomiendo 100% que leais este libro, todo lo que promete con la sinopsis lo cumple.

Caraval is magic, mystery and adventure. And for Scarlett and her sister, she represents freedom and being able to flee from her father. Now that he is about to marry a man he has never seen, Scar believes that his dream will never come true. But just two weeks before the wedding, he receives the long-awaited invitations to the games. However, once there nothing goes as expected: Legend, the Master of Caraval, kidnaps Tella and Scarlett will be forced to enter a dangerous game of love, dreams, half-truths and magic in which nothing is what it seems. Real or not, he only has five nights to decipher all the clues that lead to his sister, or it will disappear forever.

PERSONAL ASSESSMENT

Justification:

I decided to read this book, obviously, because of its beautiful cover: dark blue with  in large white letters and a bright blue star. I was also struck by the plot: A fantasy world where you cannot trust anyone, romance, dreams to fulfill, a great contest in which not anyone can participate ... I found it very interesting, I did not follow the same patterns as other juvenile books, and the truth is that it did not failed me. I liked it a lot and when I found out that there was a second part, which goes on sale this year, I was very happy.

Plot:

The book begins by introducing Scarlet, and explaining how is her life is on the island, showing how her daily life is like. Her sister Donatella, knowing of her dream of participating in Caraval, ends up convincing her to participate in the great event (exclusive, annual and totally secret) from which she has tickets to go. In addition they will be carried by a handsome stranger (Julian) who has just met his sister. In order to participate, they have to escape from a rather strict father (and a bit bastard ...). In addition, he has to return early to attend his own concerted wedding, that is, he has just enough time to participate in Caraval. Both sisters will be introduced in a game full of mystery, and in which they will get to know themselves better.

Characters:

• Scarlet: is the main character, is a person too cautious. She thinks too much about the consequences of their actions. In this book we see how she faces those fears and she ends up knowing herself better, and make their own decisions. 

• Donatella: is the sister of Scarlet, unlike her, she is more daring, shameless and she does things without thinking about the consequences.  She just thinks of her own freedom and enjoyment. 

• Julian: is a curious character. He appears at first as an mystery character, but throughout the plot, he is gaining the prominence it deserves and becomes a key character in the world of Caraval. 

Atmosphere:

I find the world she has created impressive, as she mixes reality with fantasy. Besides being a very original idea, it reminds me a bit the Hunger Games because of the theme about the selection and the game but, at the same time, it also reminds me Alice in Wonderland, for all the mystery and fantasy. If I had to describe the atmosphere in two words they would be: INCREDIBLE and MAGICAL.

Writing style:

The author's way of writing, in my humble opinion, is quite good. I just found a fault, it would be that to mix both the fantasy and reality too much in the book leaves you somewhat confused, makes the reader think hard whether that is part of reality or just fantasy. As the book goes on, I started to appreciate that characteristic that irritate me before, it is somehow part of its essence.

GENERAL COMMENT

If you want to bury yourself in a world full of fantasy, with certain touches of reality and, above all, intrigue... I totally recommend to you read this book, everything that the synopsis promises, is fulfilled.

Consejos sobre viajes

¡Hooooola! Soy Saru y voy a encargarme de la sección de viajes. Os iré dando tips y contándoos experiencias sobre todos los lugares que he visitado.

Lo primero sobre lo que me gustaría hablaros es sobre la selección de destino y compra de vuelos, ya que suele ser lo más difícil. Yo soy muy curiosa y investigo mucho y sigo muchas cuentas de instagram de oficinas de turismo de países y ciudades y voy guardando en google maps con las etiquetas de "quiero ir" o "destacado" los lugares interesantes. Cuando tengo ahorrado el dinero suficiente decido un destino entre los marcados, el que más me apetezca y me meto en páginas sobre ese destino (siempre haciendo la búsqueda en inglés para conseguir más resultados) para investigar sobre los precios, costumbres, etc.

Una vez que lo he leído todo por encima me meto en diferentes buscadores para ver cuáles suelen ser las diferentes compañías que vuelan más barato a ese destino (los buscadores/comparadores normalmente te cobran un poco más por hacer de intermediario) y cuáles son las escalas de esos vuelos. Una vez apuntado todo eso en una libreta me dispongo a buscar vuelos parecidos por mi cuenta en las diferentes compañías low-cost. Yo con la que más suelo viajar es con Norwegian pero también he viajado con Ryanair y Transavia. Transavia no me gusta mucho porque solo puedes llevar un bulto, si llevas maleta de mano no puedes llevar bolso o mochila, y no te aseguran que vaya a entrar en cabina y creo que te obligan a facturar (pagando). Lo bueno de Norwegian es que tienes el "calendario low-cost" donde te muestra todos los precios de ese mismo vuelo los distintos días del mes, y así puedes escoger bien para conseguir el vuelo más barato.
Yo soy de España y aunque los aeropuertos más baratos para viajar suelen ser Barcelona, Alicante, y toda esa zona, al ser del norte (Santander) me viene mejor ir a Madrid.
Sabiendo que, por ejemplo, Norwegian es una empresa escandinava (Noruega), los vuelos más baratos los tiene a finoescandinavia, por lo tanto, seguramente que un vuelo con una escala (que hayas comprado por separado) en Oslo, Estocolmo o Copenhague, te va a salir más barato que comprando el billete desde tu país hasta el país de destino. Además, así puedes conseguir vuelos más baratos. Gracias a ese mecanismo me he ido a Finlandia (comprando Madrid-Estocolmo, escala de 12h saliendo del aeropuerto, Estocolmo-Helsinki y Helsinki-Madrid) por 120e cuando en los buscadores los vuelos directos no bajaban de 210.

También hay que andar con mucho cuidado con las cookies. El ordenador te guarda las cookies de los viajes que buscas y, true fact, los precios te suben cada vez que vuelves a hacer la misma búsqueda. Por eso os recomiendo que cada vez que vayáis a hacer alguna búsqueda antes borrad cookies e historial e id apuntando en un papel los precios y el día de la semana, ya que como muchos sabréis, sale más barato volar a primera y última hora del día y los martes y jueves. ¡Ojo! Hablo de la hora y día para volar, no para comprar los billetes. En ryanair utilizan una herramienta para la venta de billetes que si hay mucho movimiento los precios suben y si hay poco bajan, por lo tanto, con ryanair lo mejor es comprar en momentos en los que la gente no suele usar el ordenador, diría que lo mejor sería (horario español) sobre las 9/10 de la mañana y las 12/1 de la noche.
Bueno, estos son los truquitos que yo uso para reservar vuelos. Os iré subiendo más consejos y tips para vuestros viajes. ¡Saludos!

Aquí os dejamos las publicaciones literarias que más ganas tenemos de leer de este mes de enero. En este caso os vamos a proponer únicamente un libro por cabeza, porque estamos aún abrumadas por la apertura del blog.

PROPUESTA DE MARTA:

“Forest of a Thousand Lanterns” de Julia C. Dao

Sinopsis: Una fantasía del este de Asia reinventando la leyenda de The Evil Queen sobre la búsqueda de una chica campesina para convertirse en emperatriz, y la oscuridad que debe desencadenar para alcanzar su destino.
