Literary recommendations: OCTOBER 2018

In this post we bring you this month literary recommendation from each of us.

MARTA’S RECOMMENDATION

La cazadora de profecías” by Carolina Lozano
Abstract:
There was a distant time in which the North Continent and the South Continent coexisted in harmony, separated by the Long Sea. But peace does not last forever ... At a time when magic is no longer just the power of the faerie peoples, in a world in which the North Continent is threatened by Esigion de Maelvania, the terrible necromancer that leads the South Continent, the free peoples have to forget their old quarrels and remain together to survive. Elves, Humans and Dwarves will try to get rid of the common enemy, but a new threat looms over the Triple Alliance of the North, endangering it. Dark secrets, a dangerous Prophecy, a Vampire of hidden designs, goblins, bloodsuckers, guls and memories of the past ... the events that lie ahead will hide the fact that the real enemy, the one who can decide the end of the war, is between the own ranks of the Alliance. And it is a lethal enemy.
The Prophecy Hunter tells the story of a future that is already prewritten. The Night Elf Eyrien de Siarta faces the most arduous task as a Slayer: to neutralize the future leaders of the Free Human Kingdoms, the prince and the human High, whom the stars point as future traitors to the Alliance. While this is happening, the war against Maelvania continues to unfold in a covert manner. The guls have docked in the
North continent and threaten to cause a slaughter in Sentrist, the Alliance must come to their aid. On the way south, Eyrien still has not decided whether he should murder the accused youths without committing their crime, the very children she had sworn to protect, the same ones who saved him from a vampire determined to persecute her. and kill her to take her power. The Last Prophecy has spun the fate of many in a dark network and the end of the millennial war rushes, for good or bad of the Alliance. Because as the Sages said long ago, it is dangerous to read in the stars ...

Opinion:
An incredible fantasy story, that mixes different races and how they have to live for themselves to survive from vampires. I was looking for fantasy, something new and especially that I was caught from the first minute, and definitely this story has been achieved. The first time I read it I loved it and it would be 16 years old, and now with 23 it has fascinated me again. Soon I will bring you the review of this book and the second that the author took.

SARAH’S RECOMMENDATION

Olalla’ by Robert Louis Stevenson

Abstract:
Stevenson’s chilling Victorian gothic novella about decaying aristocracy, vampirism and tormented love.

Opinion:
I would not consider it a novella, but a short tale. We all know that in the Victorian period the gothic novella was very famous and, Robert Louis Stevenson famous by his novels ‘The strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ and ‘The treasure island’ of course joined it.
This is a very entertaining and pleasant tale (you can read it in one afternoon) and it captivates you in its mysterious and gothic atmosphere until it gets to its final ending.

ROCÍO’S RECOMMENDATION

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” by J.K. Rowling, Newt Scamander

Abstract:
A brand new edition of this essential companion to the Harry Potter stories, with a new foreword from J.K. Rowling and an irresistible new jacket by Jonny Duddle.
An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since publication, Newt Scamander's masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. Scamander's years of travel and research have created a tome of unparalleled importance. Some of the beasts will be familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books – the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail ... Others will surprise even the most ardent amateur magizoologist. Dip in to discover the curious habits of magical beasts across five continents ...
'No wizarding household is complete without a copy' Albus Dumbledore

Opinion:
The premiere of the second part of the film based (in part) on this book is coming up, so it seemed that this month was the appropriate time to read this obligatory reading of Hogwarts. I loved it (like everything related to the Harry Potter universe)! Note that the illustrations (only present with some animals) have seemed wonderful to me and that the text that describes the creatures perfectly combines reality and fiction. Completely recommended to spend a rainy afternoon learning about animals and the magical world.
